The key element to treating bad breath is determining its cause. Bad breath can be caused by a variety of factors, from beverages like alcohol to stomach illnesses. Some other causes are tobacco use, medicines, and quite often inadequate oral hygiene.
In my office, we are advocates of early detection and early treatment. We agree with the ADA and believe that a prophylaxis cleaning and oral evaluation should be done once every six months.
During this cleaning, Sarah, our hygienist, will remove all calculus buildup. If bad breath (halitosis) is an issue, further treatment might be required.
We are always happy to discuss all treatment options and please don’t hesitate to ask questions.
